Celebrating Your Wins: How to Rewire Your System for Success in 2023

Can you believe the first month of the year is almost over? Has it felt like it’s flown by or does it feel like it will never end? For me, it’s felt like a little of both! Still, I wanted to share this story with you.

Yesterday I was with a yoga client and I was SO excited to see his progress. Less than three months ago, a (seemingly simple) movement of picking up his leg had proved almost impossible. 

But yesterday, with focused concentration, he did it skillfully. I gave a big “WHOO WHOO” and congratulated him. He then bowed his head and said, “Yeah yeah, but what about the next part? How do I do that?”

This got me thinking. How often do we just move on to the next thing without really taking in all that has actually happened? 

How often do we focus on what hasn't been accomplished before taking the time to celebrate what we’ve achieved? 

For many of us, it is common to focus more on what didn’t go right or what isn't working than our wins. I see this in my clients and my own life. As an entrepreneur, it can be easy to discount our success and focus on the things that are not right or left undone. 

This exact thing happened in a coaching session last week. I was meeting with a female client and asked her to review the wins and goals for next year. She immediately began discussing her team’s wins and their goals for next year. I clarified that I wanted to hear about HER wins and goals. As leaders, so often we focus on our team/others rather than our personal achievements and goals. 

But what happens when we celebrate our wins?

When we do this, we re-wire our systems for success. The more we focus on what makes us feel amazing the more our energetic systems draw in those experiences. 

So let’s feel good about what we have achieved. Let's really FEEL success in our bodies. 

Here is an exercise to support you in this process:

  1. Write down all your wins for last year— little achievements, big achievements, public wins, and private victories.

  2. Now pick the one in which you have the strongest emotional connection.

  3. Close your eyes and bring yourself back to that experience.

  4. Feel your feet on the ground.

  5. Take a deep breath into your whole body and exhale. Notice how your whole body feels.

  6. Where do you feel that sensation of success? What emotions are present?

  7. Can you allow that feeling of success to fill your whole body? 

  8. What would it be like to experience this sensation every day? 

This is the place from which we want to set intentions and goals for 2023.
